Founded in 2017, NOVI began with the vision to create a small team capable of rapidly implementing advances in spacecraft computing. The Company has exclusively focused on edge processing and AI for small spacecraft, leading the integration and in-space testing of highly integrated spacecraft and on-board computing technologies for national security and commercial applications. NOVI has been awarded a number of notable contracts and funding awards, including multiple awards from the Commonwealth Commercialization Fund (CCF), as well as Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) awards from NASA, the U.S. Air Force, the National Science Foundation (NSF), and the Missile Defense Agency (MDA). NOVI is a privately held company based in Arlington, Virginia.

“We initially selected the VORAGO M4 processor as a supervisor for the main SoC to provide the highest levels of radiation performance. We quickly discovered that the high performance and rich peripheral set of the MCU enabled it to take on a more primary role in managing the spacecraft bus, offloading many tasks from the Versal SoC to the VORAGO rad hard MCU. This enables a highly efficient dual strategy that leverages the AMD adaptive SoC for intensive AI applications while reducing the overall power envelope necessary for the spacecraft.”

SP240 Performance On-Board Computer

NOVI’s AI-enabled SP240 OBC is a highly-optimized edge processor that offers un-paralleled machine-learning performance in a power efficient CubeSat form factor, while being powerful enough to operate larger payloads and satellite missions. NOVI’s SP240 OBC features VORAGO’s radiation-hardened VA41630 M4 MCU which can either be used as the primary computer, or as a supervisor for the main processor and other spacecraft systems.
